Palo Alto Mall

May 20, 2012 by shelley

The Palo Alto Mall is a fun place to spend some time. From the great stores (Nordstrom, Apple, Sony, Brooks Brothers and many many more) to the restaurants (Mac’s Opera House and the new one we tried Yucca de Lac) to the gorgeous flowers. And not to forget the perfect weather it is a great way to spend some time together!

Today was the first day we have eaten out at a restaurant this holiday. We headed down to the plaza to the Cheesecake Factory, one of our favorites, and also to see the plaza lights! The Kansas City Plaza Lights are one of this country’s most spectacular Christmas lights and one of Kansas City’s most favorite traditions and is the official kick off of the holiday season. The famous ceremony, which began as 16 lights hung over a doorway, now includes over 80 miles of lights with 280,000 multi-colored bulbs outlining and illuminating the buildings and tower of the Country Club Plaza. The first official Plaza Lighting ceremony began in 1930, and now draws thousands to the Country Club Plaza on Thanksgiving night.

Eating in Chicago.

November 7, 2011 by shelley

We had the opportunity to eat at the hip and very trendy restaurant The Girl and a Goat. It was opened by Stephanie Izard, who won Bravo’s (fourth season) Top Chef. She mixes flavors from around the world helter skelter and comes up with a tasty dish that is served to the table as it is done. Consequently, everyone at the table tastes some of every dish. Surprisingly, every dish tastes good with every dish, even though there is such a mish/mash of flavors. The menu is presented with three columns, vegetables, fish and meat. We tried a couple of vegetables (the sauteed green beans were delicious and we loved the roasted beet/green bean/anchovy/avocado creme fraiche) a fish (sauteed prawns/peanut-pork ragout/spaghetti squash) and a couple of meats (smoked goat rilette empanadas and wood fired walters’chicken/yuzu harissa/fried pickles/kholrabi/grilled naan) We also had the ham frittes. Everyone loved the chicken. The goat empanadas were surprisingly good. We aren’t big fry eaters so the ham frittes were probably our least favorite. We had to get our reservations three months in advance if you can believe it. But we were glad we had the opportunity to eat at the Girl and the Goat.

We also got into the Ralph Lauren Restaurant for lunch just off of Michigan Ave. I had to check out the Rueben Sandwich.

The atmosphere is like a very formal library.
