Cute baby present idea…and easy to make!

October 25, 2011 by shelley

I recently saw an easy, but adorable idea for an unique baby present on the Martha Stewart show. And just as they promised it was easy. They were called numbered baby bodysuits on Martha Stewart. Most people call them “onesie, but I understand “onsies” are a registered trademark name for Gerber. So 12 snapsuits are decorated, one for each month of the baby’s first year. Templates for the numbers: One to four, five to eight, and nine to twelve.. (From the Martha Stewart Website.)  It would be adorable to put the 12 pictures, one from each month, in a 12 picture frame to see the baby’s first year in progression!

Numbered baby onsies make an adorable baby gift.

Closer view of onsies.

Gender neutral colors are used in decorating the onsies.

A beautiful way to document baby’s first year in pictures.

From the Martha Stewart website:
Tools and Materials
Baby Bodysuit templates (1 to 4 months, 5 to 8 months, and 9 to 12 months)
Iron-on transfer paper for light fabrics
Scissors
Iron
3 size 0-3 month infant snap tees
3 size 3-6 month infant snap tees
6 size 6-12 month infant snap tees
Gift box (optional)
Numbered Baby Bodysuit How-To
Print templates on transfer paper. (They will be mirror images.)
Cut out designs, leaving a small white border around each. Place the first month’s design face down on the front of the smallest size shirt.
Using a dry iron on the hottest setting, iron the back of the design with firm pressure for 30 seconds. Turn iron halfway through so tip of soleplate is facing opposite direction.
Peel off transfer paper immediately. Stretch design outward in direction of fabric grain.
Repeat for each month, ironing the designs onto the appropriate size shirts.
To package, lay each shirt face down on table and fold sides inward so the fold is on the edge of the design. Starting at snaps, roll shirt up to neck. Place all rolled shirts in gift box with design facing upward.
