Jen and family stop over in Kansas City on their move to Salt Lake City.

June 24, 2013 by shelley

Jen and the kids (and Izzy) flew to Kansas City and stayed a few days while Adam was driving (and moving their household) to Salt Lake City.  Adam stayed the weekend and then was on his way to Salt Lake City.  We enjoyed going for yogurt, Prairie Village Art Fair, playing and swimming in the pool.

Christmas 2012

February 16, 2013 by shelley

Christmas 2012.

The calm before the storm:DSCN0040

DSCN0041DSCN0039We knew it would be celebrated in two parts, one part would be early when Becca and Henry would open the presents Santa brought.  The Longs  would then head out to Grandma and Grandpa Long’s  household in Olathe and they would celebrate again.   The rest of us decided to wait for B.J., Jenn and Jack to arrive to really celebrate.  We were still hoping they would arrive in time for Christmas.  We would pick them up from the airport once they arrived, wait for the Longs to return and then we would have Part II Christmas.

Beatty Christmas Part I.

Becca and Henry got up very early, checked their stockings, checked to see if Santa ate his cookies and checked to see if the reindeer ate their food…

Finally late in the afternoon we were able to celebrate Beatty Christmas Part II.  B.J., Jenn and Jack had traveled for more than 30 hours, slept in an airport, switched planes two times, and four airports later they finally arrived!

Lightening Strike!

July 14, 2012 by shelley

I remember while Jen was visiting one night there was a terrible lightening and thunder storm. The storm awakened me from a deep sleep and one thunderclap was particularly loud and shook the house. I remember thinking, “My goodness, that was close.” Little did I know how close! A tree in my neighbor’s yard was struck and its branch flipped over and hit the side of our house, missing power lines, our fence, and our windows….just leaving a black streak down the side of our house. I walked around the house for days straightening pictures on the wall that had been shaken askance. But it wasn’t until I sat down at our computers that I realized the real damage. First I noticed my keyboard on my big Mac was no longer working…nor the mouse. I also found numerous programs no longer working and data had been affected–missing, since hard drives were no longer working. It has taken weeks to try and get the computers running normal again. The lightening strike a little too close for comfort!!

Flowers in bloom…early spring!

April 16, 2012 by shelley

My peonies have already bloomed this year, before Easter!

And my lilacs (used on our carrot cake flower pot desserts for Easter dinner)…love the smell of lilacs!
