Education Week at Brigham Young University…

August 31, 2012 by shelley

We attended Education Week at Brigham Young University. We love it and have attended for years. This year was the 90th year of Education Week.
It was held August 13 to 17 in Provo, Utah, and featured more than 1,000 classes presented by BYU faculty members, seminary and institute instructors, and other professionals. Class subjects included education, family relations, genealogy, health, history, marriage, religion, and science

This year’s theme, taken from Proverbs 29:18, is, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

As we drove toward Provo, we could see smoke from all the wildfires that have burned this year.

I have always loved the Brigham Young University Campus because it is so beautiful, the grounds are impeccable and the flowers incredible. But the backdrop of the mountains is something beyond description.

New Print of Liz Lemon Swindle.Liz Lemon Swindle’s other new print.

During Education Week, attendees have a chance to meet LDS artists, and often you can receive a free signed print by that artist.  Here are a couple of new prints by one of my favorite LDS artists, Liz Lemon Swyndle.

My favorite picture by the artist Liz Lemon Swindle is of Joseph Smith in Liberty Jail:

Classes at Education Week.

August 26, 2011 by shelley

At Education Week I usually take classes on genealogy, church history and literature.  The picture shows a class by William Hartley.  He taught two hours each day on a variety of topics concerning Church History.  Susan Easton Black taught a class on church history.  I also took a continuing legal education class, since it was taught by my brother, Craig Smith.  (He is the best water attorney in Utah.)   I almost think my favorite class this year, actually two classes each day taught by the same person, Ron L. Andersen.  He has written a book called, A. Lincoln God’s Humble Servant.

Education Week at Brigham Young University.

August 26, 2011 by shelley

Every year Bob and I go to Brigham Young University’s Education Week.   We enjoy the opportunity to take classes on a variety of subjects.  I really wanted to go this year, since it would be the one year anniversary of my big health scare.  (Yes it all happened one year ago while we were at Education Week.)  I didn’t want Education Week to have that memory hanging over it.  So Bob and I went.  I had to text my children every morning to let them know I was okay.  Education Week started in 1922, so this year was the 89th year of this unique continuous education program for adults.  There were over 30,000 adults in attendance.  The theme this year was, “That All May Be Edified.”  D & C 88:122.
