Elf Funny Business

Elf Funny Business

I guess because there are more people in the world Santa has sent out more and more Scout Elves.  I never saw a Scout Elf until my grandchildren were at my house for Christmas.  And ever since those Elves have been busy.  We have both a girl Elf and a boy Elf.  I am sure it is because I have both boys and girls for grandchildren, but whatever the reason we have TWO!  The Elves (and we definitely have the mischievous sort of  scout elves at our house) were up to their usual antics this Christmas season….

The elves switched out our toilet paper for white duct tape (This could get sticky!)…

This could get sticky

They turned our bananas into minions!

I left the flour out on the kitchen counter one night and lo and behold the elves made flour angels….it would be warmer than snow!

Imagine my surprise opening up the refrigerator one morning and discovering the elves hiding inside…

Milk mischief

As soon as I saw the “writing on the cap”  I knew there was trouble…

And sure enough we had Elf Milk!!

Green milk!

One morning we awoke to a cotton snowball fight.

I was not pleased to find elf poop all over the toilet…

Let it go!

But as we approached Christmas Day the elves seemed to do less mischief and they even got creative:

And of course no one wants to get into trouble the day before Christmas and the Elves even did their own nativity!

Gingerbread Houses

Gingerbread Houses

Making gingerbread houses has become one of our most fun traditions at Christmas time.

Each grandchild gets their own house…parents are allowed to help…and there are no restrictions…be as creative as you want AND eat as much candy as you can!  I have used the same Gingerbread House Recipe (.doc format) or Gingerbread House Recipe (.pdf format) for the gingerbread for over 3o years (it first appeared in Crafts magazine November 1982)

Christmas Tree

January 18, 2016 by shelley

Christmas tree hunting.

The weather precluded our traditional day after Thanksgiving hunt so it was on Saturday when we finally headed to the Christmas Tree Farm, Bierman’s Christmas Tree Farm to get our Christmas tree.

December 17 And It Is Time To Visit the Fairy Princess

January 7, 2012 by shelley

One week until Christmas and it was time to visit the Fairy Princess. A visit to the Fairy Princess right before Christmas is a long standing tradition in Kansas City. The Fairy Princess first appeared in Kansas City, Mo. in 1935 in the toy department at Kline’s Department Store, one of the many department stores located within the downtown shopping district. At Kline’s the princess wore an elaborate gown complete with magic wand. Each child would share their Christmas wishes, get their photo taken with the princess and as a treat for the child, the Princess would wave her magical wand and a small gift would slide down a chute. Kline’s Fairy Princess delighted children for as many as 30 years until the closing of Kline’s in the 1970’s. Twenty years ago, The Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall revived the Fairy Princess tradition.

Henry and the Fairy Princess, someday he will wish he sat closer!

That night we crowded into one vehicle and went on a tour of Christmas lights.
