Hallmark’s Visitors Center

Visiting the Hallmark Visitor’s Center in Kansas City Missouri

One of the best attractions in the visitor’s center is the automatic bow making machine!  One push of a button and your very own miniature bow pops out of the machine.  A BIG hit with the kids!!

NORMAN ROCKWELL and HALLMARK

There is a long history of Norman Rockwell and Hallmark.

Rockwell was a favorite of Hallmark founder, J.C. Hall.

J.C. Hall contacted the artist about creating some images for greeting cards and a flourishing business relationship (and lasting friendship) began.

The materials cover the period 1948-57 and include oils, watercolors and pencil drawings as well as photographs, vintage Hallmark cards and correspondence with Hall. The images are from the Hallmark Art Collection and were created for use on Hallmark Christmas cards and other products.

And for the Christmas enjoyment of everyone,  Hallmark opened the Rockwell vault!  On display were over 50 Rockwell originals!!

And of course the best know Kansas City Norman Rockwell Painting is the iconic

Plaza Art Fair 2017

Plaza Art Fair 2017

I have done the Plaza Art Fair every year since we moved to Kansas City in 1984.  It is one of my favorite events!

Plaza Art Fair 2017

The artist I discovered this year was Stan Piepenburg of Wisconsin.  He uses the contrast of black, white, and various colored inks, to capture the feeling of spaciousness and serenity while illustrating the simplicity of our world. His ink work ranges from the detailed line drawings to the stark winter landscapes where the skies are formed using a combination of inks, creating multiple hues that all of us observe at different times.  All the scenes on view are, in one way or another, very familiar to people in the Midwest.

Kansas City Chiefs

One perk of having the Reids (a.k.a. the coach of the Kansas City Chiefs)  in our ward is a V.I.P. trip to a Kansas City Chiefs game for the Young Women!

We got to go to the Chiefs vs the Titans, got to go on the field before the game and meet players, and enjoyed delicious food in a box all courtesy of the Reids!  Thank you to the Reids!!!!
