A “Rubber Duck” Baby Shower Breakfast Brunch for Twins.

March 23, 2013 by shelley

At our church, in our ward we have had three sets of twins born since Thanksgiving.  Two of the moms had baby showers.  But one mom, Denae, did not have a shower.  Her babies were born on New Years day, and they were 4-5 weeks early taking everyone by surprise!  The babies, both boys,  did not come home for a couple of weeks and even then they did not make their public debut for weeks.  But the time had come for Denae’s baby shower for her twin boys.   I did a “Rubber Duck” theme, using blues and yellow.

The invitation: IMG_2178

A sign greeted people as they arrived.

"Baby Shower!" sign announced this is the place for the shower.

A table was set out with antique glass luncheon plates, a milk bottle glasses and a “nut cup” with blue chocolate sixlets and yellow duck candies.  A duck napkin accented yellow plasticware wrapped in a yellow napkin.

The centerpiece was a glass bowl on glass blocks.  Blue glass gravel covered the bottom of the bowl and glass bubbles were set around a rubber duck.  Decorative accents in blue and yellow were behind the table and hanging above the table.

The rubber duckies (small ones) were ordered from http://www.partycity.com.

The one large rubber duck was ordered from http://www.TinToyArcade.com.

The nut cup had a mix of chocolate and yellow duck candy.

The blue ducky candy mix I made from mixing: mini milk chocolate balls in navy blue, azure blue and light blue and yellow (sweet tart) candy ducks. All were ordered from http://www.candywarehouse.com.

My dining room table was the setting for gifts.  It was decorated with a coordinating centerpiece, flowers and balloons.

For the take home favor I made blue bubble bath and designed coordinating labels and tags.  But then I also happened to find on the internet the chocolate yellow ducks…so I couldn’t resist.  They were the final touch to the yellow duck baby shower.  Here’s a link to the label (Rubber Duck Favor Label for Bubble bath .doc format or Rubber Duck Favor bubble bath label pdf format) and tag (Rubber Duck Favor Baby Shower tags .doc format or Rubber Duck Favor Baby Shower tags pdf format (look in your download file for the word document-.doc format). I have made the tags generic so anyone can use them (no name or date).

The Palmer Chocolate Ducks were on sale and ordered from http://www.boscovs.com/store/homepage.html.

(Update 2015:  The above link is no longer helpful but the Palmer Chocolate Ducks can be found at:  http://www.dollartree.com/Palmer-Candy-Quax-Milk-Flavored-Candy-Ducks/p297497/index.pro)

I ordered them around Easter time so they might be seasonal.

The Bubble Bath Favors
I have had so many ask where I got the bubble bath…
I actually made the bubble bath…it is not hard to do.  Here’s how you do it:

I ordered the following supplies from:   http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com

I ordered the following;
–4 oz Clear Round Bullet Plastic Bottle 20/410 item number 1ZA0138R0341339827

–20/410 White Smooth Disc Top Cap item number 1ZA0138R0341339827

–1 gallon Bubble Bath – Clear 1ZA0138R0341339827

–Stained Glass Ocean Blue Soap Color Bar (to color the bubble bath-just used a small portion of the color bar)item number 1ZA0138R0341339827

–Baby* Fragrance Oil 675 (for fragrance) item number 1ZA0138R0341339827

I heated the bubble bath in a double boiler slightly and broke off pieces of the color bar and dissolved (by stirring) in the bubble bath until I got the color I wanted. Added the fragrance a little at a time until I got the fragrance strength I wanted. I then poured the bubble bath into the plastic bottles and capped them.
I also made the label and glued onto each bottle. Added the tag I made and voila! A very personal shower favor!

Roaaar! Jack’s new sweater!

June 8, 2012 by shelley

I finished Jack’s new sweater with a roaring cute lion on the front.  I had some yarn left over so I added the cap.  Can’t wait to get the pictures of him in it!

Cute baby present idea…and easy to make!

October 25, 2011 by shelley

I recently saw an easy, but adorable idea for an unique baby present on the Martha Stewart show. And just as they promised it was easy. They were called numbered baby bodysuits on Martha Stewart. Most people call them “onesie, but I understand “onsies” are a registered trademark name for Gerber. So 12 snapsuits are decorated, one for each month of the baby’s first year. Templates for the numbers: One to four, five to eight, and nine to twelve.. (From the Martha Stewart Website.)  It would be adorable to put the 12 pictures, one from each month, in a 12 picture frame to see the baby’s first year in progression!

Numbered baby onsies make an adorable baby gift.

Monthly onsies…numbered baby onsies make an adorable baby gift.

Closer view of onsies.

Gender neutral colors are used in decorating the onsies.

A beautiful way to document baby’s first year in pictures.

From the Martha Stewart website:
Tools and Materials
Baby Bodysuit templates (1 to 4 months, 5 to 8 months, and 9 to 12 months)
Iron-on transfer paper for light fabrics
Scissors
Iron
3 size 0-3 month infant snap tees
3 size 3-6 month infant snap tees
6 size 6-12 month infant snap tees
Gift box (optional)
Numbered Baby Bodysuit How-To
Print templates on transfer paper. (They will be mirror images.)
Cut out designs, leaving a small white border around each. Place the first month’s design face down on the front of the smallest size shirt.
Using a dry iron on the hottest setting, iron the back of the design with firm pressure for 30 seconds. Turn iron halfway through so tip of soleplate is facing opposite direction.
Peel off transfer paper immediately. Stretch design outward in direction of fabric grain.
Repeat for each month, ironing the designs onto the appropriate size shirts.
To package, lay each shirt face down on table and fold sides inward so the fold is on the edge of the design. Starting at snaps, roll shirt up to neck. Place all rolled shirts in gift box with design facing upward.
Resources

The numbered baby bodysuits were by artist Shanon Carter.

As pictured on the Martha Stewart website.
