Tied Baby quilt from Max and Bunny Fabric for Becca

August 29, 2014 by shelley

Tied Baby quilt (fabric from Max and Bunny)  for Becca’s about to be born daughter!

Becca is a new featured designer with her Max & Bunny line at Andover Fabric. (Andover Fabric is a wholesaler, but lots of places are starting to sell her line: i.e. Fabric.com and several sites on Etsy: The Fabric Cobbler, You Made Something, Stitch Stash Diva, Forever Patchwork.  Andover Fabric also carries the Downton Abbey line.) I decided to use some of Becca’s fabric to tie a baby quilt for her soon to be born daughter.  Since she is having a girl I went with the pink.

I first laid out the fabric and batting and reverse side fabric and pinned all over.

I decided not to use a heavy yarn to tie it…it is such a clean, crisp design I decided to use embroidery floss.  I debated between the yellow and pink but decided on the pink.

I placed the ties geometrically and evenly spaced.

Knitted baby sweater for new granddaughter…

Knitted baby sweater for new granddaughter…

Becca is having a baby girl.  I asked her to pick out a knitted sweater pattern that I could knit for her new baby.  She chose an off-white classic sweater with wooden buttons.  It turned out really adorable!

I used a free pattern from the website Ravelry.

Or you can download it here: Sunnyside Baby Cardigan

Becca wanted the “boy version”, with the straight edge.  For the hat I used a plain hat pattern and changed it to match the sweater with the border on the bottom and the cabling (like the sweater) evenly distributed around the hat.

The yarn I used was Tanis Purple Label Cashmere Sock and I loved it…so soft!

I used the color “natural” and I ordered it from eatsleepknit@eatsleepknit.com (both the sweater and hat was made from one skein of yarn-making the 3-6 month size).

Wooden buttons were ordered from Etsy’s buttonsbraidsandmore (25 Pcs – 1 Lot, Coffee 4 Holes Round Wood Sewing Buttons 11mm(3/8″) Dia).

Adorable baby gift…cardigan and bonnet by Sirdar

January 27, 2014 by shelley

I decided to make a cardigan and sweater for a baby gift to Ellen Riley’s first granddaughter.  (Karen’s baby Emerson…Karen is my daughter Jennifer’s good friend and has been ever since they were tiny children.)  I found the pattern to knit  this beautiful cardigan and bonnet by Sirdar (It can be found on the  internet at Patternfish…sorry…this one I cannot share for free.) But I will say it does work up very quickly.  It took a bit of a learning curve for me since this was the first time I worked with English abbreviations (as in Great Britain- English) not American knitting abbreviations.  But thank goodness for the internet.

Sweetheart sweater for sweetheart Caroline.

November 5, 2013 by shelley

Having already made a sweater for my grandchildren Becca, Henry and Jack (last year) I decided it was time to get out the knitting needles again.  Caroline has not received one so I decided hers would be the first one I did this time around.  I found an adorable sweater and hat called Sweetheart Sweater Set (the knitting pattern is a free download).  (Or here’s a pdf copy of  sweetheart sweater set knitting pattern).

Adorable knit baby hats; strawberry, watermelon, lemon and bunny knit baby hat.

June 19, 2013 by shelley

I signed up for the vintage fashion show by donating hand knit baby hats.  One week before the fashion show I decided I better get busy.  I found a cute pattern on line for a strawberry knit baby hat.  I used the same pattern and adjusted it to make a watermelon knit baby hat and a lemon knit baby hat.  I also found a cute pattern for a bunny hat.  The strawberry hat was so cut I had to make one for my granddaughter Caroline.  She of course wore it to pick strawberries.

Updated and clarified!

Update:  I have sent this pattern out many, many times and I have no idea how many people have downloaded the pattern.  But I recently heard from someone that downloaded the strawberry hat pattern and hit a snag trying to following the directions…and I thought she was right it was not quite right…just not very clear.   I have clarified and updated the instructions so they reflect the changes so they are now much easier to follow.  She completed her strawberry hat and sent a picture of it to me!  It turned out gorgeous!!  A big thank you to Lindsey Tsuboi!!!  Here is her hat:

And with slight alterations I made a watermelon hat and a lemon hat:

And finally a bunny knit baby hat (the bunny hat is a different pattern-it is more difficult than the others:
