Peep Twinkie Cars

A fun activity for my grandkids was making Peep Twinkie Cars for our Easter dessert table!  We used both Twinkies and Zingers…

Sugar Easter Eggs

Sugar Easter Eggs

To make the Sugar Egg  I used a Taste of Home Recipe for a guide (or download here Sugar Easter Egg).  I used their recipe for the egg, which consisted of:

3 tablespoons water

food coloring

4-1/2 cups sugar

I put all the ingredients in a ziplock bag and mixed up really well and then pressed into an egg mold, turned over on wax paper.  I cut the ends off equally.  I let dry for a few hours then carefully scooped out the centers.  Instead of putting in the oven as the recipe calls for I just let them air dry for a couple of days.

I made the royal frosting with meringue powder.  I followed the recipe that came with the powder.

The idea came from another blog, but instead of putting it on a wood slab we used shadow boxes and then I let them decorate around the egg.
